Texas Tech WR Jakeem Grant out of hospital and 'doing well' after incident

Texas Tech WR Jakeem Grant was taken to a hospital early Sunday morning after an incident at a party off campus.

A Texas Tech spokesperson sent the following in a text message to RedRaiderSports.com.

"We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are gathering facts. Jakeem is no longer in the hospital and is doing well."

Per the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Grant was involved in an incident at a venue in Lubbock.

“Tech has confirmed that it was one of their football players, but his involvement, I don’t know,” Lt. Bryan Taylor, a spokesperson for the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department said. “I don’t know if he was involved in the altercation or if he just caught part of the assault. It’s my understanding that he had a laceration, so it may have been a knife wound. ... Anytime you have that many shots fired, people are going to scatter. I don’t know what caused his laceration.”

Per the A-J, more than 20 rounds were fired from multiple vehicles around 1:30 a.m. Taylor told the paper that a second person was injured, but the injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. An incident report is expected to be released Monday.

Grant is Texas Tech's leading receiver. He has 50 catches for 629 yards and five touchdowns.
