Syracuse K Ross Krautman's comeback is over.
On Saturday, Syracuse coach Scott Shafer said that Krautman's career is over because of a chronic hip injury. Krautman missed the final 11 games of the 2013 season but got a waiver for a fifth season to play in 2014. However, that won't be happening.
The hip condition is what sidelined him in 2013 as well.
"We were really hopeful he was going to make it back," Shafer said via Syracuse.com. "It's continued to be a bother to him. He's had a lot of pain with it.
"Ross is a great kid, one of my favorite kids on the team, and I really appreciate the effort he put into his time here at Syracuse and he'll be missed, he really will."
Krautman's was the Orange's starting kicker for his first three seasons at the school. In those three years, Krautman was 48-61 on field goals and 106-109 on extra points. Last year, he was 1-2 on field goals and 4-5 on PATs before the injury. After making 18-19 field goals his freshman season, his field goal percentage declined in subsequent seasons.
Ryan Norton kicked in Krautman's place last year, though he was suspended for the spring game for a violation of team rules.
