Two LSU true freshmen were arrested in separate incidents on campus last week.
Trey Lealaimatafao and Davon Godchaux, both defensive linemen, will be “disciplined internally” and have already met with head coach Les Miles, LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette told NOLA.com.
LSU police said that Lealaimatafao, a defensive tackle from San Antonio, Texas, was arrested for stealing a bicycle. The incident allegedly took place on July 1 when the bike was stolen near the Middleton Library on campus.
Investigators identified Lealaimatafao from surveillance footage in the area and made contact with him on Thursday. He admitted taking the bike and told investigators he thought it was permissible if the bike was not secured, Lalonde said. The bike was returned to the victim Thursday.
This is the second incident involving the 17-year-old Lealaimatafao in his short time on campus. Last week, Lealaimatafao was hospitalized after punching a glass window in the Tigers’ weight room, severely injuring his arm. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday. Lealaimatafao, a three-star recruit, is expected to miss the season due to the arm injury.
Elsewhere, Godchaux, 19, was arrested July 21 for criminal mischief. The 19-year-old defensive end was identified as a suspect in an incident where firecrackers were thrown “into a unit at LSU’s West Campus Apartments.” Police said that Godchaux admitted to throwing the firecrackers, which started a small fire and damaged a sofa.
Godchaux, a four-star recruit from Plaquemine, La., said throwing the fireworks was supposed to be a prank.
