Five-star Oklahoma freshman Joe Mixon accused of assault

The highest-rated player in Oklahoma’s 2014 recruiting class is the subject of a police investigation in an assault on a female OU student.

SoonerScoop.com was the first to report that five-star running back Joe Mixon was involved in a “serious altercation” early Friday morning at Pickleman’s Gourmet Café, a restaurant in Norman. Mixon, who was reportedly out celebrating his 18th birthday Thursday night into Friday morning, has not been arrested at the scene and an investigation is underway. Mixon’s attorney, Kevin Finlay told the Norman Transcript that he had been communicating with local police throughout the day Friday.

“We are cooperating with authorities and look forward to resolving this matter,” Finlay said.

The alleged victim, 20-year-old Amelia Rae Molitor, told The Oklahoman that Mixon punched her in the face and broke four bones. Molitor said she had never seen Mixon before and that Mixon was “harassing” her and some of her friends before the alleged incident occurred.

“He punched me one time,” Molitor said. “He broke my face in four places … my nose, my sinuses … they’re broken.”

Molitor said that she intends to take legal action against Mixon and that she hopes he “goes to prison for years.”

“That’s what he deserves. I don’t care if he’s the star running back or not,” Molitor said.

Molitor, a native of Euless, Texas, also said that she fears repercussions from Oklahoma football fans.

“That’s my big fear (the fans),” she said. “I’ve been told to stay off of social media to avoid (OU fans) coming after me on there.

Via USA Today , the incident report sad that a 5-foot-7, 130-pound female “was hit in the face by a male subject – (subject) is gone – she is in the bathroom – she is (conscious) and she is intoxicated – she is bleeding from the mouth – no difficulty breathing.” Additionally, the report noted that the woman had “apparent broken bones” and there was “no known motivation” for the alleged assault.

Additionally, an eyewitness described the incident to the Tulsa World .

An eyewitness to the alleged assault said he recognized Mixon when he entered the restaurant with “probably 25-30 friends” and added that about 15 minutes passed before the confrontation. The eyewitness said, “I looked up and saw him punch her. She was out cold. There was blood on the ground. It was bad.”

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione told the World that the school is aware of the incident.

“We’ve been made aware of the report. We take reports like this seriously and we’re gathering information. That’s really all we can say,” Castiglione said.

The school also released a statement saying that it is “aware of the matter and it is under internal review.”

The 6-foot-2, 211-pound Mixon, a native of Oakley, Calif., was rated as the top all-purpose back and No. 8 overall prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. He had been praised by coaches throughout the summer and was expected to make an impact as a true freshman in the fall.
