Utah St. QB Keeton (knee) likely out for '14
Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton likely out for the season with knee injury
Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton will likely miss the rest of the season with an injury to his surgically repaired left knee.
Keeton was injured during the second quarter of the Sept. 13 game against Wake Forest and hasn’t played since. Coach Matt Wells said at the time he was hopeful to get Keeton back for this weekend's game against BYU, but at this time it appears unlikely.
“Chuckie’s health is our top priority and he has not been cleared to play by our medical staff,” Wells said. “We will continue to monitor his progress throughout the fall, but given his current condition it is unlikely that he will play in any games in the foreseeable future.”
Keeton originally suffered a torn MCL and torn ACL against BYU last October. The injuries required surgery and Keeton missed the back half of the season.
Keeton, a senior, has not redshirted during his Utah State career, so he could come back to play next season.
In the two games he played this year, Keeton was 51 of 92 for 426 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 81 yards and one score. Keeton currently ranks fifth among active FBS quarterbacks in completion percentage (.654), seventh in career touchdown passes (58), eighth in total touchdowns responsible for (73) and 10th in total offense for a career (7,621 yards).
Sophomore Darell Garretson, who took over for Keeton last year, started the Aggies last game, a 24-14 loss to Arkansas State on Sept. 20, and will be the starting quarterback going forward.
