Auburn parts ways with DC Ellis Johnson
Auburn has fired defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson.
According to AuburnSports.com, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn informed Johnson of the decision on Sunday.
"At this time I felt it was best for our program to make a change with our defensive coordinator," Malzahn said in a statement. "Ellis is a true professional and I would like to thank him for his contributions at Auburn."
The Tigers' defense gave up 55 points to Alabama on Saturday night in a 55-44 Iron Bowl loss. It was the fifth straight SEC game that Auburn had given up more than 30 points to an opponent.
Auburn, 8-4, ranks No. 57 in total defense, giving up 389 yards per game and 5.60 yards per play. The yardage numbers are actually improvements from last season, as Auburn's defense gave up six yards a play and over 420 yards a game in 2013. However, the Auburn offense wasn't as electric as it was in 2013 when the Tigers made it to the BCS Championship Game.
Johnson was hired by Malzahn when the former Auburn offensive coordinator took over as head coach of the Tigers before the 2013 season. Before joining Auburn, Johnson served as the head coach at Southern Miss for a season after Larry Fedora went to North Carolina.
Auburn is the second SEC team to fire its defensive coordinator (while keeping its head coach) and the school will be mentioned along with Texas A&M as a possible destination for former Florida coach Will Muschamp if Muschamp wants to be a coordinator in 2015. Before becoming Florida's coach and Texas' defensive coordinator before Florida, Muschamp served as defensive coordinator for Auburn in 2006 and 2007.

Ohio State's Kosta Karageorge found dead
Ohio State defensive tackle Kosta Karageorge was found dead.
Karageorge was reported missing on Wednesday by his family. A body was found Sunday afternoon near his apartment and Columbus (Ohio) Police confirmed it was Karageorge. He was 22.
Police confirm body found is OSU player Kosta Karageorge. Spokesman says appears he died of self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Karageorge was a walk-on for the Ohio State football team and also wrestled. According to a police report, Karageorge's mother said he struggled with sports-related concussions and his sister said he had suffered one a month prior. His mother said he texted her Wednesday referencing the concussions and apologized for being an "embarrassment."
Ohio State held a moment of silence for Karageorge before Saturday's game against Michigan and a missing poster was displayed on the scoreboard at Ohio Stadium. After the game, coach Urban Meyer called Karageorge's disappearance "unbelievable" and said "All you can do is grab a knee and play hard."
Kostageorge's family became worried for him when he left his apartment without any identification at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning. He hadn't been seen since.

SMU to introduce new head coach on Monday
SMU will introduce its new head coach in a press conference on Monday afternoon, the school announced on Sunday. Though the school did not specify who has accepted the position, multiple outlets are reporting that the Mustangs’ new coach is Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
Morris denied that he had finalized an agreement with SMU following Clemson’s win over South Carolina, but TigerIllustrated.com and the Dallas Morning-News reported Sunday morning that Morris will be introduced by SMU on Monday.
“I have not agreed to anything with SMU,” Morris said Saturday. “When the time comes, we’ll come out and say what needs to be said.”
According to the Dallas Morning-News, Morris’ contract with SMU is worth “about $2 million per year.”
The 45-year-old Morris is a Texas native who was a head coach at high schools in the state from 1994-2009. After a one-year stint as offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2010, Morris was hired by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney to be his offensive coordinator in 2011.
Morris’ reported hire comes less than three months after June Jones resigned two games into his seventh season with the program. With interim coach Tom Mason at the helm, SMU is 0-11 and has one game remaining this season at UConn on Saturday.

UAB reportedly set to shut down football program
Not long after becoming bowl eligible for the third time in its existence, the UAB football program may be shutting down.
Per USA Today, the school "has given indications the program will shut down this week and that (athletic director Brian) Mackin is working on a separation agreement from the university."
SI.com also reported that Mackin is parting ways with the school and that an announcement would be made about the (lack of a) future of the football program on Thursday. Coach Bill Clark told ESPN that he feared the program would be shut down.
"I think it's going to happen," Clark said. "Unless something changes before the weekend ends, I think it's over. I think the odds are very high it ends this week. To shut the doors? That's sad."
On Saturday, UAB beat Southern Mississippi 45-24 to be 6-6 and eligible for a bowl for the first time since 2008. Clark was hired before the 2014 season and had signed a three-year deal.
There were indications that a possible shutdown has been in the works for a while. Some boosters, including Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White, wrote in a letter earlier in November that trustees were looking at the possibility of shuttering the program.
The school, which is part of the University of Alabama system, plays football at Legion Field in Birmingham.
The last FBS-level program to drop football was Pacific in 1995. UAB started as a Division III football team in 1991 and moved up FBS in 1996. It joined Conference USA in 1999. Without a football program, the school's standing in Conference USA in other sports is tenuous.

Troy announces Neal Brown as its next head coach
Former Kentucky offensive coordinator Neal Brown is Troy's new coach.
The school announced Brown's hire on Sunday and will host a Monday press conference to introduce him.
When Brown was asked after Kentucky's season-ending 44-40 loss to Louisville on Saturday, he said it wasn't his place to speak about the news. Well, because he knew it'd be official a day later.
Brown, 34, has been an offensive coordinator at 2008 and has served as an assistant previously at Troy. He was the Trojans' OC from 2009-2009 before spending three years at Texas Tech with Tommy Tuberville and two years at Kentucky.
"I am very happy for Neal to earn a head coaching job and believe Troy has made an outstanding hire," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said in a statement. "Congratulations to Neal and his family and I appreciate his hard work at Kentucky."
Since winning the Sun Belt in 2010 and going 8-5, Troy hasn't had a winning record. After finishing 6-6 in 2013, the Trojans were 3-9 this season and ended the year with a 42-23 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette.
Larry Blakeney, Troy's coach for the previous 24 seasons as the school moved from Division II to eventually the FBS level, announced in October that he was retiring at the end of the season.

Jaylen Walton might have put Mississippi State's College Football Playoff hopes on ice.
Shortly after MSU punted to Ole Miss in the third quarter on Saturday, Walton ran to the right and reversed field to his left. He found a seam and was off to the races for a 91-yard touchdown run.
The run gave Ole Miss a 24-10 lead with a little more than a quarter remaining in the game. If Mississippi State loses, the Bulldogs are eliminated from contention in the SEC West and likely eliminated from any chance of playing in the College Football Playoff as three teams below MSU in the rankings only have one loss. A loss in the Egg Bowl would be MSU's second of the season.

Clemson coach: Watson playing with torn ACL
Deshaun Watson played against South Carolina with torn ACL
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson played against South Carolina on Saturday with a torn ACL.
Watson suffered a left knee injury against Georgia Tech on November 15 but the school said that he suffered a bone bruise and sprained LCL. The torn ACL, according to coach Dabo Swinney, happened in preparation for Clemson's game against Georgia State on November 22 as Watson went down during a drill in practice.
An MRI the next day revealed a torn ACL. Watson played in the win over South Carolina with a brace on his left knee.
"That brace was his ACL in this game," Swinney said via TigerIllustrated.com.
Watson was 14-of-19 for 269 yards and two touchdowns against the Gamecocks. He also had two rushing touchdowns on five carries. He left the game briefly early but returned.
Swinney also said the plan is for Watson, who also suffered a broken bone in his hand earlier in the season, to play in the Tigers' bowl game before he has surgery. The month layoff between games will allow Watson's LCL to heal fully but isn't nearly enough time for the ACL to heal.
It's also fair to question whether or not Watson should have been playing against South Carolina in the first place. Yes, playing with a torn ACL is not unheard of, but Watson, a freshman, has been Clemson's most dynamic player and will be for two or three more years. While he may not be able to do more damage to the ACL, he's apparently suffered injuries to two of the three main ligaments in his knee in a short timeframe.
The succeeding instability makes him a less effective and explosive player and any overcompensation can increase the risk of further injury.
But from Watson's perspective, he clearly wanted to play. And from Clemson's, well, the offense with a hobbled Watson is still much better than it is with Cole Stoudt under center. The difference in Clemson's offense with the two quarterbacks is incredibly clear, and the team clearly felt Watson gave it the best chance to win.
And ultimately, Clemson was right as the Tigers beat the Gamecocks for the first time since 2008. And hopefully Watson won't be injured further before the ACL is fixed after the season.

Ohio State beats Michigan, but Barrett injury hurts playoff hopes
Ohio State beat bitter rival Michigan at home on Saturday afternoon, but it took a major hit to its College Football Playoff hopes.
On the Buckeyes' first play of the fourth quarter, star redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett was tackled awkwardly from behind and suffered a severe lower leg injury. The Heisman candidate had an air cast applied and he was carted off the field.
Ohio State was clinging on to a 28-21 lead against a resilient Michigan squad when Barrett went down. With sophomore Cardale Jones in at quarterback, the Buckeyes managed to pull out a 42-28 thanks to a 46-yard Ezekiel Elliott touchdown run on a fourth-and-one play with under five minutes to go. Later on, a 33-yard fumble return for touchdown by Darron Lee added some style points for the Buckeyes and put the game out of reach.
Ultimately, a really solid win for the Buckeyes will be completely overshadowed by Barrett’s injury.
Early reports indicate that the injury is one that would require several months of recovery.
Sources telling me JT Barrett has right ankle dislocation and probable broken bone. Was taken to hospital immediately.
— Tim May (@TIM_MAYsports) November 29, 2014
With that said, Barrett will likely miss next Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game against the winner of the Minnesota-Wisconsin game. Beyond that, it does not seem likely that Barrett could return for a bowl game in late December or early January.
With Barrett out, Jones – who started the year third on the Buckeyes’ depth chart – assumes the starting role. Coming into Saturday’s game, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Jones attempted only 16 passes in his career. He attempted three more against the Wolverines, completing two for just seven yards.
Over the past few years, he has seen plenty of garbage time running the read option in relief of Barrett or Braxton Miller, and against Michigan he rushed twice for 18 yards. Jones is nowhere near as shifty as Barrett, but he can run people over and has accumulated 316 yards and one touchdown on 41 carries in his career.
Even if Jones is able to lead the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title next weekend, the selection committee can factor in the injury of a significant player when filling out its rankings.
The selection committee protocol lists “other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance” as a factor it can consider when ranking teams.
Barrett, who threw for 2,658 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while running for 849 yards and nine more scores entering Saturday, certainly fits that criteria.

Georgia Tech beats Georgia 30-24 in OT
Georgia Tech beat Georgia for the first time since 2008 on Saturday with a 30-24 overtime win.
The Yellow Jackets sent it to overtime after a 53-yard field goal by Harrison Butker that barely cleared the crossbar. And by barely, we mean that if the field goal was from 54 yards, it might not have been good.
Georgia Tech got the ball to start overtime and Zach Laskey scored on a two-yard run but Butker's extra point was blocked, the second kick of his that was blocked. So because of the miss, Georgia just needed to score a touchdown and get the extra point for the win.
However, Hutson Mason was intercepted by D.J. White. Mason thought he had Malcolm Mitchell on a slant, but White jumped the route and picked off the pass to clinch the win.
Mason found Mitchell for a touchdown and a 24-21 lead with 18 seconds left in regulation on fourth down. The Bulldogs had gotten the ball to get the go-ahead score with 2:41 left after Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas fumbled while attempting a pump fake.
Thomas fumbled as the Yellow Jackets were simply trying to run out the clock after taking a 21-17 lead and recovering the ensuing kickoff. Tech pooch-kicked to prevent a long return but no one from Georgia took the initiative to field the ball and Tech picked it up off the bounce.
Oh, the game also featured three fumbles inside the one-yard-line, including a Thomas fumble that was returned 99 yards for a touchdown by Georgia's Damian Swann. Georgia Tech blocked a Georgia field goal, too.
The win gives Georgia Tech 10 wins and a boost heading into next Saturday's ACC Championship Game against Florida State. The loss means Georgia finishes the regular season at 9-3. The Bulldogs were eliminated from contention for the SEC Championship Game on Friday with Missouri's win. Had Arkansas beaten the Tigers, Georgia would have played either Alabama or Mississippi State next Saturday in Atlanta for the SEC title.

Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett leaves game with injury
It appears that the season of Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has been cut short by injury.
With the No. 6 Buckeyes leading 28-21 early in the fourth quarter against rival Michigan, the Heisman Trophy candidate went down with a gruesome-looking injury to his lower right leg. Barrett was tackled from behind and his lower leg was caught underneath the defender as he was pulled to the ground awkwardly.
Barrett stayed down on the field for several minutes as an air cast was applied to his injured leg. The redshirt freshman was then carted off the field and into the locker room for further evaluation.
Before Barrett was lifted onto the cart, Michigan senior quarterback Devin Gardner showed great sportsmanship and wished his counterpart well.

— Freep Sports (@freepsports) November 29, 2014
Barrett took over as Ohio State’s starter after senior Braxton Miller suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in preseason camp. He started the season off slow, but has been one of the nation’s best quarterbacks over the last few months.
Before leaving the game, Barrett threw for 176 yards and a touchdown while also running for 89 yards and two more scores. Entering Saturday’s game, Barrett threw for 2,658 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while running for 849 yards and nine more scores.
With Barrett sidelined, sophomore Cardale Jones – who started the season as the team’s third-string quarterback – now looks to be the man under center for the Buckeyes moving forward.

Georgia's Damian Swann returns fumble 99 yards for TD (GIF)
Georgia Tech's Justin Thomas might have scored a touchdown. But if he did, the officials didn't see it.
Thomas attempted to run the ball in from two yards out in the third quarter against Georgia on Saturday but as he was swallowed up by Georgia's defense, Damian Swann ripped the ball from his arms and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown.
It's inconclusive if Thomas actually got into the end zone or if he was down at all when the ball was ripped out, but it's apparent that he had the ball taken from his grasp after his forward progress had been stopped. However, no whistles were blown and the play continued until Swann scored.
The touchdown was an incredible swing in the game. If Thomas would have scored, Georgia Tech would have taken a 14-7 lead. Instead, the Bulldogs grabbed the lead by a score.
It was also the game's third goal-line fumble. Before Georgia Tech coughed it up near the end zone, Georgia's Nick Chubb and Sony Michel each fumbled.

Though they cannot suit up due to injury, the numbers of Penn State seniors Ryan Keiser and Zach Zwinak will be worn Saturday afternoon for senior day at Beaver Stadium.
Junior cornerback Jordan Lucas will wear Keiser’s No. 23, while senior running back Bill Belton will wear Zwinak’s No. 28 when the 6-5 Nittany Lions host No. 10 Michigan State (9-2) at 3:30 p.m. ET.

— Penn State Football (@PennStateFball) November 29, 2014
Keiser, a safety who went from walk-on to team captain, fractured a rib during practice leading up to Penn State’s game against Ohio State on Oct. 25. That rib fracture led to a serious bowel injury that kept him in intensive care for weeks.
Zwinak, a fellow senior running back, broke his ankle on the opening kickoff of the Penn State-Ohio State game. He is 15th on Penn State’s career rushing list with 2,108 yards and is tied for tenth in school history with 11 100-yard rushing games.
Similarly in 2012, Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges honored fellow senior linebacker Michael Mauti on Senior Day by wearing his No. 42. Additionally, the entire team wore No. 42 decals on their helmets to honor Mauti.
Both Keiser and Zwinak will be on hand to be honored along with 15 other PSU seniors before the game.

Missouri takes SEC East for second-straight year with Arkansas win
Missouri is going back to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.
The Tigers gave Arkansas a dose of its own medicine in the fourth quarter Friday in a comeback 21-14 win that sealed Missouri's second-straight SEC title game appearance.
After tying the game at 14-14 early in the fourth, Missouri got the ball back with 10:42 left in the game at its own 15-yard-line. The Tigers marched down the field with just one pass play – and it was incomplete. Thanks to a five-yard penalty, Missouri had 11 carries for 90 yards, the last of which was a 12-yard run by Marcus Murphy for the winning touchdown.
Missouri finished the game with 158 rushing yards.
Arkansas' chance to tie was given second life on a 4th-and-8 after the Razorbacks committed a false start penalty. Missouri DE Shane Ray apparently didn't hit the whistle and hit QB Brandon Allen, who was struggling with a back injury he suffered last week against Ole Miss. Ray was flagged for roughness and the penalty gave Arkansas a first down.
Six plays later, Alex Collins ran for two yards and Arkansas called timeout. However, Collins fumbled as he was tackled and Missouri's Markus Golden recovered the ball. The play was originally not called a fumble and Arkansas' timeout gave officials plenty of time to decide a review was necessary. Following a review after the timeout, Missouri was awarded the ball and simply had to run out the clock.
After losing many key contributors from an 11-2 Cotton Bowl-winning team last year, Missouri was picked to finish in the bottom half of the SEC East. And, much like Ohio State, who lost to Virginia Tech at home, Missouri suffered a brutal non-conference home loss early in the season. In week four, Missouri lost 31-27 to Indiana.
However, since getting flattened by Georgia 34-0 at home, Missouri, 10-2 and 7-1 in the SEC, has won six straight games thanks to a resilient defense which again was fantastic in the second half on Friday. After Arkansas went up 14-3 in the second quarter, Missouri didn't let the Razorbacks get past the Tiger 34 until the final drive of the game.
Had Missouri lost Friday, Georgia would have gone to Atlanta thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker. But with Georgia's loss to Florida, control of the East flipped back to Missouri and the Tigers never relinquished it. After losing to Auburn last year, Mizzou now has a chance for redemption against either Mississippi State or Alabama.

12 Reasons Why the Weekend Won’t Suck [November 21 — 23]
Watch to Watch, Week 14: The final Saturday of the regular season is here
The college football regular season is almost over and there’s still so much to be decided.
Welcome to rivalry week.
There are several pivotal games his weekend which will determine division champions and possibly spots in the College Football Playoff.
While a handful of games were played on Friday that had conference race implications, there are several big games Saturday, especially in the SEC, which could have a profound effect on the playoff rankings.
Here’s what to watch in Week 14:
Game of the week:
No. 15 Auburn at No. 1 Alabama, 7:45 p.m. ET
It would be ridiculous to think the drama of last year’s Iron Bowl could repeat itself, but this game — just like last year — has national championship implications. If Alabama wins, the Tide will probably notch the top spot in the College Football Playoff. If it loses, it could fall out of the playoff rankings altogether. Auburn has been out of the race for a few weeks, but would like nothing more than to play spoilers to their rivals for the second consecutive year. Look for this game to have some scoring, especially with Auburn's porous defense.
Game to watch:
No. 4 Mississippi State at No. 19 Ole Miss, 3:30 p.m. ET
The shine of this game wore off pretty quickly after Ole Miss failed to show up against Arkansas last week, but it’s still an important game in terms of the playoff picture. Mississippi State is weak against the pass, but without Laquon Treadwell, the Rebels don’t have much of a vertical threat. Mississippi State, which has leaned on its running game a lot of the year, will encounter one of the toughest defensive fronts it’s seen all season. This game could be closer than expected, but it’s going to be tough for the Rebels to pull off the upset.
Also check out…
Utah State at Boise State, 10:15 p.m. ET
Boise State is not only is seeking a berth in the Mountain West championship game, but also an opportunity to be the Group of Five representative in a New Year’s Six Bowl. All it needs to complete half of those goals is to beat Utah State, but that might not be so easy. Utah State has the toughest defense the Broncos have faced, allowing 18.3 points and 116.5 rushing yards per game. The Aggies also have a chance to play for the title, but they need Colorado State to lose to Air Force.
Don't waste your time with:
Michigan at No. 6 Ohio State, 7:30 p.m. ET
The only reason to watch this game is if you’re a big fan of this series, or if you want to watch what could be Brady Hoke’s final game as Michigan’s coach. Michigan does have a decent defense, but after the way Ohio State struggled against Indiana last week, J.T. Barrett and Co., will probably be eager to get their high-powered offense back on track.
Keep an eye on:
J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State
Barrett wasn’t named a Davey O’Brien finalist, which was a bit of a surprise given how well he’s played this season and all the records he’s broken, however, his quest for an invite to the Heisman ceremony is still up for grabs and he could solidify that spot with a strong game against Michigan. And who knows? This might be the last regular season Big Ten game Barrett plays in until 2016.
Upset alert:
Florida (-7.5) at No. 3 Florida State, 3:30 p.m. ET
The prospect of Florida sending coach Will Muschamp out on a high note is almost too much to ignore. Florida State is the better team here, no doubt about that, but it’s also struggled at times against weaker competition and Florida’s defense could give Seminoles’ quarterback Jameis Winston fits. Even if the defense manages to keep Winston quiet, the Florida offense would have to play about as well as it’s played all year to send Muschamp out as a winner.

Nebraska rallies to beat Iowa 37-34 in overtime
It seemed like Nebraska flipped a switch late in the third quarter.
The Huskers struggled on offense for much of the day but scored 31 of the game’s final 41 points to register a come-from-behind, overtime 37-34 victory over Iowa in Iowa City.
Everything was going wrong for Bo Pelini’s team for the first 32 minutes of play. Tommy Armstrong was intercepted twice (one returned for a touchdown), punter Sam Foltz kicked the ball off his own teammate and returned for a touchdown by Iowa, and Drew Brown had a 27-yard field goal blocked.
So when the Huskers regained possession down 24-7 with 3:19 to go in the third quarter, they needed a score in the worst way. Quickly the flip was switched and the Huskers scored on a five-play, 64-yard drive that culminated in a 34-yard Armstrong touchdown pass to Taariq Allen.
An excellent De’Mornay Pierson-El punt return set up Nebraska’s next score a few minutes later – a 32-yard connection between Armstrong and Kenny Bell.
Pierson-El struck again a few minutes later, but this time he would not be brought down. The true freshman took back a Dillon Kidd punt 80 yards for a touchdown to give the Huskers a 28-24 lead with 12:06 to go.
Iowa did not go away easily, however. After the teams traded punts, the Hawkeyes executed a 12-play, 53-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a five-yard touchdown pass from Jake Rudock to Jordan Canzeri on third-and-goal with 1:49 to play.
The Huskers again answered, but could not reach the end zone this time. Instead, Brown knocked down a 20-yard field goal to force overtime.
The Nebraska defense held Iowa a field goal on the first possession of the extra frame. The Huskers then sealed the win on Armstrong’s fourth touchdown pass of the game – a nine-yard strike to Bell in the front right corner of the end zone.
Facing his fifth-straight four-loss season, Huskers coach Bo Pelini was firmly on the hot seat heading into the game. It didn’t look for Pelini for much of the afternoon, but his team responded to improve to 9-3 with a bowl game on the horizon.
Nebraska has never been a bad program under Pelini, but it has been a stagnant program that has yet to advance to a Big Ten Championship game. In a place where excellence has been the standard for decades, four-loss seasons lead to questions about the coach’s job security.
Meanwhile, for Iowa, the Hawkeyes finished the season at 7-5 with the loss. Iowa beat just one team with a winning record this season: FCS Northern Iowa.

Marshall loses undefeated season with 67-66 loss to WKU
There will be no more debate about Marshall's place in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Thundering Herd's bid for an undefeated season disappeared Friday at home after Western Kentucky went for a two-point conversion and the win in overtime and successfully converted it for a 67-66 victory.
Marshall scored on its second play of overtime with a 25-yard pass from Rakeem Cato to Hyleck Foster. Then, on WKU's second play of overtime, Brandon Doughty threw his eighth touchdown pass of the game to Jared Dangerfield. Yes, we said eighth.
Instead of going for the game-tying PAT to head to a second overtime, WKU, at 6-5 entering the game, went for the win. And it was a successful try. WKU lined up on the left hash and Doughty rolled to his right and hit Willie McNeal on the right side of the end zone for the win.
Thanks to three early interceptions by Cato, Western Kentucky stormed out to an early lead. All three interceptions turned into WKU touchdowns and after the first quarter the Hilltoppers led 28-21. At halftime, the lead was 49-42, three points short of the record for combined points in a half.
The scoring slowed down in the second half, which meant the entire game escaped the FBS record for most combined points. The record for most combined points in an overtime game is 136, which was set when Boise State beat Nevada 69-67 in 2007. However, that game went four overtimes.
Cato finished with seven touchdowns and four interceptions while Doughty had two interceptions. His second came with 10 seconds left and the game tied at 59-59. After a run play following the pick, Marshall had the option to kick a 57-yard field goal for the win but eschewed it in favor of a pass towards the end zone. It fell incomplete.
During Tuesday's College Football Playoff Rankings, the Herd was a spot below two-loss Boise State in the battle to be the highest-ranked non-Power Five conference team in the top 25. Even though Marshall was one of only two undefeated teams in the FBS along with Florida State, the Thundering Herd's porous strength of schedule was keeping it near the bottom of the rankings.
While you can argue that it's not Marshall's fault that it was playing a weak Conference USA schedule, it was apparent watching the Herd over the last few weeks that the gripe to be closer to the top of the rankings wasn't entirely ironclad.
Now Marshall will be nowhere near the top 25 in the next set of rankings and the Broncos and Mountain West Conference rival Colorado State are the frontrunners for the New Year's Bowl berth while the Herd will play in a bowl like the Liberty Bowl or Bahamas Bowl.

Nebraska punter kicks ball off teammate, Iowa returns it for TD (GIFs)
Down 17-7 to Iowa midway through the third quarter, Nebraska conducted a clinic on how not to execute a punt.
First, punter Sam Foltz dropped a perfect snap. He was able to collect the ball off the turf, but as he got off a punt, he kicked the ball directly off the backside of one of his blockers – No. 72 Zach Hannon, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman.
As Foltz took a big hit, the ball deflected high in the air and flew 15 yards backwards. It took a nice hop for the Hawkeyes and 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive lineman Drew Ott scooped up the loose ball for an Iowa touchdown.
Since he kicked the ball off a teammate and it wasn’t technically blocked by Iowa, Foltz’s gaffe went down in the box score as a negative 31-yard punt and a 12-yard return for Ott.
On a day where Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini’s job appears to be in serious jeopardy, a miscue like this will not help his team's chances of pulling out a road win.
